Window Screen Repair in Bend, Oregon
Torn mesh, bent frames and screens that will not sit in the track — repaired on site in Bend, usually while we clean your windows. If a screen is past saving we rebuild it rather than patching it.

WHY IT MATTERS
A damaged screen is quietly costing you more than it looks
Most people treat a torn screen as cosmetic and leave it for years. In Bend it is doing three things in the background. It is letting in the pollen and smoke the mesh was there to stop. It is holding grit against the glass. And a bent frame stops the screen seating properly, which lets the window track fill with debris.
There is a direct link to glass. A dirty or damaged screen re-soils the window beneath it every time the wind blows, which is covered in more detail on our screen and track cleaning page . Repair is the step that makes a clean last.
The UV load here is the other half of the story. Bend averages around 300 days of sunshine, and sustained UV makes older fibreglass mesh brittle. Screens that survive a decade elsewhere go chalky and tear at the spline here.
WHAT WE REPAIR
What window screen repair covers
Most repairs happen on site in the same visit. Nothing leaves your property unless a full rebuild needs it.
Re-screening torn mesh
Old mesh and spline removed, frame cleaned, new mesh fitted and tensioned so it sits flat with no ripple.
Bent frame straightening
Aluminium frames trued back to square so the screen seats in the track again instead of bowing out.
Corner and spline repair
Split corner keys replaced and loose spline re-seated — the two failures that make a screen fall out of the window.
Full frame rebuild
When a frame is beyond straightening we build a new one to the measured opening rather than forcing an off-the-shelf size.
Pet-resistant mesh
Heavier mesh fitted where dogs and cats push through standard fibreglass. Worth it on doors and ground-floor windows.
Solar and no-see-um mesh
Solar mesh cuts heat gain on west-facing glass. Finer mesh keeps out the small insects standard screens let through.
WHY SCREENS FAIL HERE
What wrecks screens in Central Oregon
Four local conditions account for most of the screen damage we see in Bend.
UV embrittlement
Around 300 days of sunshine a year makes fibreglass mesh chalky and brittle. It tears at the spline rather than in the middle. See seasonal timing
Ponderosa needle load
Needles and cones drop into tracks and against frames, holding moisture and grit that works the mesh loose over time.
High-desert wind
Wind-driven dust and sustained pressure bow frames outward, which is why screens start falling out before they look torn.
Freeze and thaw cycles
Water trapped in a track freezes overnight and expands. Repeated through winter, it distorts the bottom rail of the frame.
WHAT IT COSTS
How much does window screen repair cost in Bend?
Most re-screens fall between $25 and $60 per screen. Three things move the price, all confirmed before we start.
01
Repair or rebuild
Re-screening an existing frame costs less than building a new frame. We only rebuild when straightening will not hold.
02
Mesh type
Standard fibreglass is the base. Pet-resistant, solar and no-see-um mesh cost more per square foot but last longer in the right spot.
03
Screen size and count
Large sliding door screens cost more than standard window screens, and doing several in one visit brings the per-screen price down.
Screens repaired during a window clean avoid a separate trip charge, which is why most customers book them together.
OUR PROCESS
How screen repair works
Step 1
Assessment during the clean
We pull every screen as part of a normal clean anyway, so damage gets found and listed without a separate visit.
Step 2
Repair or rebuild decision
You get told which screens are worth re-screening and which need a new frame, with a price for each before anything happens.
Step 3
On-site repair
Mesh replaced and tensioned, frames trued, corner keys and spline renewed. Most screens are done the same visit.
Step 4
Refit and check
Every screen refitted in its own opening and checked that it seats properly in the track rather than being forced.
REAL QUESTIONS
What Bend homeowners ask about screen repair
Taken from homeowner threads and from what people ask when we pull their screens. Answered for Bend conditions.
“My screens keep popping out of the window. The mesh looks fine. What is going on?”
That is almost always a bowed frame rather than a mesh problem. Wind pressure and freeze-thaw cycles distort the frame until it no longer sits square in the track, so it pushes itself out. Straightening the frame fixes it; new mesh would not.
“Is it worth repairing screens or should I just buy new ones?”
If the frame is straight and the corners are sound, re-screening is cheaper and gives you the same result. If the frame is bent beyond truing or the corners have crumbled, a rebuild to the measured opening is the better spend.
“Our dog has gone through the screen door twice. Is there anything tougher?”
Yes. Pet-resistant mesh is a heavier woven product that resists claws and pushing far better than standard fibreglass. It costs more per screen but on a door a dog uses daily it usually pays for itself the first time.
“Why do my screens look chalky and white before they tear?”
That is UV breakdown. Bend’s high sunshine load degrades the fibreglass over years, and the chalky appearance is the material failing. Once mesh reaches that stage it will tear at the spline soon after, so it is worth replacing before it does.
“Can you repair screens while you clean the windows, or is it a separate visit?”
Same visit in nearly every case. We remove every screen during a standard clean anyway, so damage is found then and repaired before they go back in. That avoids a second trip charge.
“Do you do sliding patio door screens? Ours is off the track and huge.”
Yes. Patio door screens are the most common rebuild we do, because their size makes them prone to bowing and the rollers wear out. We can re-screen, true the frame and replace rollers so it glides again.
CHOOSING MESH
Which screen mesh is right for your Bend home?
Four mesh types cover almost every situation here. The right one depends on the window, not on price alone.
What matters | Standard fibreglass | Pet-resistant | |
|---|---|---|---|
Solar screen | No-see-um | Best for | General windows |
Doors and low windows | West and south glass | Evenings outdoors | Resists pets |
No | Yes | Partly | No |
Cuts heat gain | No | No | Yes, noticeably |
Slightly | Stops small insects | No | No |
No | Yes | UV life in Bend | Shortest |
Long | Long | Medium | Relative cost |
Lowest | Higher | Higher | Medium |
Most Bend homes end up with a mix — standard mesh on upper windows, pet-resistant on doors, and solar mesh on the west elevation.
