The Bend Window Cleaning Calendar: Month by Month

How often to clean your windows is one question. When to do it is a different one, and in Central Oregon the second matters more. The same clean booked in March and in late May produces completely different results, because the thing landing on your glass changes month by month. This is a calendar rather than a frequency guide — if you want to know how many visits a year a Bend home actually needs, that is answered separately in our guide to how often to clean windows in Bend . What follows is what is happening to the glass in each part of the year, and the dates worth planning around.

Most homes need two visits. The whole trick is putting them in the right months.

Key insight: there are only two dates that really matter in Bend: after the pollen finishes in late spring, and after the smoke clears in autumn. Everything else is optional.

What is happening month by month

  • January to March — grit, meltwater and road cinder on the lower third of the glass, and western juniper starts shedding from late February. Nothing worth a full clean yet, though tracks fill fast.
  • April to June — juniper finishes, ponderosa takes over through May, and irrigation systems come back on. This is when the year’s first real clean belongs, ideally after the pines have finished.
  • July to September — peak irrigation spotting on lower panes, dust from dry ground, then wildfire smoke from mid-July onward. Exterior-only passes make sense here; a full clean does not.
  • October to December — smoke season ends and the glass carries an oily film that hardens if it overwinters. October is the single most valuable month in the Bend calendar.

Three timing mistakes that cost money

1. Booking the spring clean in March

March is peak juniper and ponderosa has not started. A March clean gets coated again in May, which is why people feel their spring clean never holds. It held fine — the second tree had not finished.

2. Cleaning during smoke season

Glass cleaned in an active smoke stretch is coated again within days. Worse, if it is rinsed and left to dry, mineral-heavy water layers spotting on top of the smoke film, and the two together are harder to remove than either alone.

3. Skipping autumn and going straight to spring

The most expensive habit on this list. Smoke film left on glass through a Bend winter bonds much harder, and tracks packed with wet litter keep frames damp for months. The autumn visit prevents more damage than the spring one.

Booking tip: late May and October book out first in Central Oregon, because those are the two correct slots. Booking three or four weeks ahead for either is normal.

The fixed points worth putting in a calendar

  • Late February — juniper starts — not a cleaning date, but the point at which spring film begins forming. Worth knowing so March disappointment makes sense.
  • Mid-April — irrigation start-up — the moment to check sprinkler heads are not throwing onto glass. Five minutes now saves a restoration later.
  • Late May — the spring clean — after ponderosa finishes. The year’s first full interior and exterior.
  • Mid-July — optional exterior pass — only for homes where irrigation reaches the glass, or next to active construction.
  • October — the autumn clean — after smoke season ends. Full interior and exterior, screens and tracks included.
  • Before the first freeze — tracks cleared — wet litter in a channel over winter is what damages frames and paint, not the cold itself.

If you take one thing from this: two visits, late May and October, suit the large majority of Bend homes. Add a mid-summer exterior pass only if sprinklers reach your glass. Each season has its own detail, covered in the seasonal guides.

What homeowners ask about timing

“What is the single best month to clean windows in Bend?”

October, if you only do it once a year. Smoke season has ended, the glass has not been through winter yet, and removing that film before it overwinters prevents the hardest cleaning job of the following year. Late May is the second choice.

“Do I need four cleans a year, one per season?”

Almost nobody does. Two is right for most Bend homes, with a third exterior-only pass in mid-summer where irrigation hits the glass. Quarterly cleaning is a commercial rhythm, not a residential one.

“Is winter a bad time to have it done?”

It is not harmful, just lower value. Nothing much lands on glass between December and February, so a winter clean is mostly cosmetic — worth it before hosting, not worth it as a maintenance habit.

“Why does timing matter more here than where I used to live?”

Because the things landing on Bend glass arrive in distinct, predictable waves — juniper, then pine, then irrigation minerals, then smoke — rather than as continuous grime. Clean between waves and it lasts. Clean during one and it does not.

No obligation. Your exact price before anyone arrives.
